Our routes

Our routes are carefully chosen with the everyday 4x4 driver in mind and are annually researched and updated. All safaris broadly follow the route indicated by the route map, but may be adapted to accommodate the different capabilities of each safari group or depending on weather or other environmental conditions. We genuinely cover more off-road miles than any other organization and with over 20 years experience in Morocco we know the best routes, the best places to visit and the best places to stay. Where we go others can only follow (eventually!) With the support and knowledge of Trailmasters you can enjoy the challenges of driving through this beautiful country in safety.

ALL SAFARIS START AND FINISH AT OUR BASE NEAR GIBRALTAR AND CROSS TO MOROCCO VIA THE ALGECIRAS TO CEUTA FERRY

MARRAKECH CLASSIC

Since our first visit to the region over 22 years ago this particular route, formerly known as the Classic Safari, has benefited from continual research and new discoveries. This 14 day Safari begins with a short hop over the Rif Mountains, continuing over the fertile rolling hills of the north, where you'll see the remains of the ancient Roman city of Volubilis. After travelling the vast Cedar Forests, we drive east to Boudnib and head south into the Sahara for three days, through unrivalled desert scenery and along ancient camel routes to remote nomadic settlements; at the Great Dunes of Erg Chebbi you can truly say you have seen one of the Wonders of the World. Continuing west we arrive at Zagora where we spend two nights allowing time to explore this bustling market town and to recharge our batteries. Heading north over the Jebel Sarhro mountains to Tinerhir we explore the gigantic Todra & Dades gorges. It's then on to the unrivalled delights of the Imperial city of Marrakech before heading northwards along the Atlantic coast to Larache, Ceuta and back to Spain.

ATLANTIC SAHARA

This 14 day Safari is suitable for all. The route incorporates fabulous mountain transits, a long desert crossing, the spectacular Atlantic coast and some days for relaxing, exploring and enjoying. After viewing the ancient city of Volubilis and the Imperial city of Meknes, we continue via the spectacular Ziz valley and the pre-Saharan plain to the Berber town of Tinerhir. Here we spend a night before taking a southern route over the Jebel Ougnat Mountains and on to one of the wonders of the Sahara, the gigantic dunes of Erg Chebbi. Turning west we begin our four-day desert crossing which is without doubt the best desert itinerary in Morocco, through remote and dramatic Saharan landscapes, staying a night in an isolated nomadic settlement before calling at Zagora for supplies; here we spend two nights taking time to explore and recharge the batteries. Our route then takes us via Mhamid, on to Tata on the 2004 Paris Dakar route, and over the Anti Atlas Mountains before arriving at the walled town of Taroudant known justifiably as 'Little Marrakech'. We spend two nights in this exotic town with its fascinating market life, and then on to the Atlantic coast, continuing north via spectacular cliff-tops and sweeping bays to spend some time in the delightful fishing port of Essaouria. The homeward journey takes a route via the coastal lagoons of Moulay Bousselham and on to Ceuta and Spain.

HIGH SUMMER SPECIAL

This 14 day Safari is an excellent all-round trip with more time spent in the Atlas Mountain ranges. This is probably the best time of year to explore the High Atlas; although the temperature can rise in summer the heat is dry and the high altitudes make it suitable for all the family. Imagine the shaded cool freshness of the vast Cedar Forests, now at their best coated in spectacular flora and fauna; simply stunning! After travelling south via Volubillis and Meknes, we reach Azrou from where we start our mountain ascent into the Cedar forest; after a night camping under the gigantic trees we continue our climb to the remote Plateau des Lacs in the High Atlas, making camp on the shores of this volcanic lake. We then descend to the pre-Saharan plain via the mighty Todra gorge and Tinerhir, after which we take a day to relax and explore the market town of Zagora. The exciting Saharan adventure now starts. Experiencing the fabulous ever-changing terrain as we pass through Mhamid & Lake Iriki we emerge at Tata. Crossing the Anti Atlas we stay to explore the Berber market town of Taroudant. We then travel west to the enchanting fishing port of Essaouira, where we take time to regain our senses before the homeward stretch up the Atlantic coast.

HIGH ATLAS TO DEEP SOUTH

Trailmasters' most recent addition to our safaris starts by taking us into the Rif, a mountainous area in the north of Morocco. The scenery & hospitality rivals anything to be found elsewhere. From Ceuta our route takes us along the Mediterranean coast until we turn south to climb & then follow the ridges high above the Laou valley affording panoramic views of both mountains & coast. Turning briefly west, we visit Chefchaouen, the relaxed but vibrant & colourful provincial capital town. Next we make our way into the Cedar Forests for a wilderness camp amongst the gigantic trees. Our onward journey takes us to Meski, the home town of our Moroccan Guide Hassan, before we head out into the desert for a night at the spectacular sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. We take in a wilderness desert camp on our way to Zagora, a bustling market town where you will have a free day to explore and an opportunity to have your car given the once over should it be required. From Zagora we move on to Marrakech where we will stop for two nights, giving you time to explore and experience the many delights that the City has to offer. After Marrakech, we make our way back up toward the Atlantic Coast, stopping for a night at the fishing village of Moulay Bousselam before making our way back across to Spain.Trailmaster Routes
